Game Play Rules
MYFC rules follow The National Federation of High School Associations rule book, as used nationally, and will govern tournament play in Michigan Youth Football Classic's tournament events, with the following changes, exceptions, additions, clarifications and emphasis.
Game Clock Rules
Each game is made up of (4) four – (10) ten minute quarters. Each team will receive (2) two timeouts per half. We use a modified clock except the last two minutes of each half (runs regulation then). Clock does stop on all scores and timeouts. We use the modified clock for efficiency so we can fit in all the games. Average game times run between 65 - 80 minutes.
in 2019 we will enforce that all officials will be (4) MHSAA licensed officials will be assigned to each game. A field manager will also oversee each division and keep tournament games operating efficiently. Please direct any questions to your field manager over your division.
Age Cutoff Rule
Understand the age cutoff. MYFC uses the same age cut-off for all tournament divisions. August 1st is the age cut-off for each age division. (Age example of the 10 & under: if your team is made up of kids 10 and younger w/ kids turning 11 after Aug. 1st, then you still compete in the 10u division). MYFC understands that many leagues have DIFFERENT age cut-off dates and we will work to accommodate your team as long as it is in line with our rules. We do accept teams from GRADE oriented leagues (but there MUST be league proof). Here is a Division example; if your team is made up of 9, 10 & 11 year olds then you'll compete in the 11u division.
Player Registration Rules
Coaches will send us a official roster via email to email@example.com 5 days prior to the tournament, and prepare your team to go through a registration check in person prior to start of tournament games. All team players at check-in must have (team jerseys on) for check-in.
Coaches, managers, team moms; please have your "team books" and or document files ready. (including official birth certificates for us to view, no copies. Player waivers & roster with jersey #'s, player name and birth dates on the roster!!). Be prepared to turn in a “printed document roster”, not a hand-written roster! If your roster is hand printed your team will not be allowed to participate in the tournament, no exceptions! Updated team roster at check-in (this will stay with tournament staff). This is VERY IMPORTANT!
As you know, The Michigan Youth Football Classic is an unlimited weight tournament with weight limits placed on skill players. Please see our skill player weight limits per age divisions. All players will weigh-in (If divisions require) and receive their wrist-band and will be worn all weekend long. Players MUST repeat process if arm-band isn't on. One coach per team MUST sign-in to receive "Coaches Pass". One coach signs for ALL coaches. All coaches must have a coach’s pass to be on the sidelines and near teams. No parents or spectators allowed on sidelines and near teams during gameplay!
Player Age Dispute – In Game
If you have any concerns with any player on a team roster, please bring your concern to the head official and tournament directors for player age review. Do not come to the tournament directors after you lose a game! Please respect the tournament and use players that are eligible based on tournament age requirements. Cheating does not benefit anyone.
Team Check-In Details
All teams will be required to check-in 30 minutes before your first game, so please plan accordingly and have your team ready and your documents ready to ensure a quick check-in process. You will be notified of the check-in location in advance. In the event a team does not show up or is disqualified, please be patient as we work to make changes to the schedule and reschedule your game.
